Sara Carter: Lit With Color

August 08 - September 12, 2020

Color and contrast are powerful catalysts for both the conscious and subconscious mind, inviting a response rich in information. By illuminating subjective preferences, aspirations, and inspirations, color and contrast can move us to a deeper discovery of our previously unexamined experiences. Color acts as a mirror reflecting back to us, through our visceral response, qualities and characteristics of who we are as individuals.

In the series Lit With Color, Carter has deliberately and organically worked with colors and color combinations that feel powerful to her. Through the months-long meditation of creating these paintings, she experienced the profound power of color and contrast as they vibrate her being, asking to join the canvases’ objecthood, taking some of herself with them and leaving their traces behind.
